A. Scott Washington, J.D., MHP is a distinguished lawyer, ed ucator, and nonprofit leader with over 15 years of experience in the legal and criminal justice systems. He began his career as a Staff Attorney in the Montgomery County Court in Dayton, Ohio, where he managed a diverse caseload of over three hundred criminal and civil cases, authored numerous judicial opinions, and demonstrated exceptional knowledge of court procedures.


Scott's passion for education led him to academia, where he served as an Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator of the Criminal and Social Justice Program at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. During his tenure, he grew the program from its inception to over ninety students and developed a reputation for innovative and effective pedagogical techniques. His teaching philosophy emphasizes a blend of theory and practice, utilizing the Socratic Method to engage students in discussions about law, criminal justice systems, and constitutional principles.


In addition to his academic career, Scott has extensive experience in nonprofit management, having served as the Executive Director of Workplace ReConnections, a Montgomery County organization focused on transitional services for individuals reentering the community after justice system interventions. In this role, he managed grants and budgets, spearheaded initiatives in transitional employment and housing, and demonstrated strong leadership and organizational skills.


Currently, Scott serves as a Mental Health Professional on the Mobile Crisis Response Team at Trinity Services, Inc., in Orland Park, Illinois. Here, he utilizes his legal and counseling background to provide vital support to individuals in crisis, helping them navigate challenging situations and access necessary resources.


Scott holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Dayton School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Studies and Planning. His commitment to scholarship, coupled with his ability to communicate complex information effectively, makes his classes in Criminal Justice and Criminology both relevant and compelling. Students consistently praise his passion, knowledge, and skill in the classroom, as well as his ability to connect with diverse populations.
